Since the high gain antenna does not work on the Raspberry Pi Zero W. I switched to using the supported Raspberry Pi Zero (without built in wifi) for the high gain antenna.
Connect the high gain antenna at first boot to the Raspberry Pi Zero with the provided image. I expect to use the 5 GHz frequency to avoid the 2.4GHz used by the Tx/Rx RC for better range in interference avoidance. With NO changes from a fresh base image.
At boot I expect that the high gain antenna WiFi will create an AP configured to 5GHz.
The system boots up with the Wifi configuration AP to 2.4GHz. I have tried to change the channel in the hostapd.conf file to a frequency in the 5GHz band. But when whenever I select any of the channels in the 5GHz band an AP is not created.
Here are picture from boot up showing the 2.4 GHz configuration with a powered USB hub.
Here is the picture without the powered USB hub, just the high gain antenna directly connected.
Here is the picture where I tried to configure it to 5GHz.
Please let me know if you can replicate the issue and what steps I should do to correct it.
